Honoring Tina Burris as She Steps Into Retirement
After 25 years in funeral service, including the last seven years serving families at our Port Clinton location, Christine “Tina” Burris is stepping into retirement from her full-time role as a Licensed Funeral Director while continuing to support families in a part-time position.
Throughout her career, Tina has compassionately guided families through some of life’s most difficult moments while building meaningful relationships within the community she served. As she begins this next chapter, we asked Tina to reflect on her time in funeral service, the people she has met along the way, and what this career has meant to her.
What has been your favorite part of working at Walker?
"My favorite part of working at the funeral home has been the people. Serving as both a funeral director and administrative assistant, I’ve had the privilege of helping families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and being able to offer comfort, guidance, and compassion has meant everything to me. I’ve also been fortunate to work alongside coworkers who became like family. In a profession most people could never imagine doing, we somehow found ways to support one another, share a laugh when appropriate, and get through even the hardest days together."
Is there a memorable family, service, or moment that has stayed with you over the years?
"There are far too many meaningful families and services to choose just one. What stays with me most are the quiet, human moments — families sharing stories, reconnecting, and finding comfort in one another. I’ve cried with families, laughed with families, and sometimes relied on nothing more than my faith and compassion to get through a difficult day. Those moments have always reminded me that this work is not just a job, but a calling."
What have you enjoyed most about serving families in the community?
"What I’ve enjoyed most is building relationships and being part of a community that feels like family. It has been an honor to help families celebrate and honor the lives of their loved ones with care and respect. Over the years, I’ve served generations of families and shared countless conversations, moments of reflection, and yes — even a few smiles along the way. I’m grateful for the trust this community has placed in me throughout my career."
What will you miss most about your day-to-day role at Walker?
"What I will miss most is the people and the sense of purpose each day brought. No two days were ever the same, and even on the most difficult ones, there was meaning in being able to help others when they needed it most. I will miss the teamwork, the stories, the quiet moments of support between coworkers, and even the chaos that somehow always came together in the end. It has been deeply meaningful work, and I will carry those experiences with me always."
What are you most looking forward to as you step into retirement/a part-time role?
"More than anything, I am looking forward to spending more time with my mom, who has always been my best friend. She is 82, and I know how precious time is. After so many years dedicated to my full-time work, I’m grateful to now step into a part-time role that still allows me to serve families while also having more time with her. I’m looking forward to the simple things — sleeping in, taking day trips, catching up on my “honey do list”, enjoying having time to do things and not always feeling rushed, and just being present for the moments that matter most, while still being able to remain connected to the work I care about."
Is there anything you would like to say to the families, coworkers, or community you have served throughout the years?
"I would like to sincerely thank all of the families, coworkers, and community members who have been part of my journey over the past 25 years in funeral service. It has been a true honor and privilege to serve families during some of life’s most difficult moments and to help them honor the lives of those they love. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, the relationships built along the way, and the kindness shown to me throughout my career. I also appreciate the opportunity I’ve had over the last seven years with Walkers to serve this community and work alongside dedicated people throughout the organization. I leave this chapter with a full heart and deep gratitude for a career that has meant more to me than words can fully express."
