Join Our Team
At Walker Funeral Homes, our work environment is one of mutual support for one another. Our motto is “what’s the most I can do?”. We apply that phrase about the families we are serving and in regard to helping each other. We spend a lot of time together at work, so we want to make that time as enjoyable as possible for everyone on our team.
A career in funeral service is fulfilling. A number of different positions come together to care for families and friends when someone they love dies. We are always looking for friendly, quality people to join our team. We have had people from other careers choose to change and get into funeral service and join us.

Celebrating Life in Our Community
Since 1933, we have been devoted to serving families in our area with high-quality burial, funeral, and cremation services. Our experienced staff members are active in our community and prioritize volunteering and attending local events. We respect the power of remembrance and the value of funerals. We believe in recognizing the significance of every life and honoring the difference your loved one made in the world. Paying tribute to their loved ones helps family and friends grieve their loss and begin the healing process.
Funeral Director
Funeral directors meet with families to plan every detail of the events they are planning to host. This could include a visitation, sharing of memories, funeral or memorial service, graveside service, etc.
Being calm and comforting are essential skills. Suggesting creative ideas is also helpful because people in grief often do not think clearly.
Funeral directors are the first to see the families when they return before the start of visitation and help them get comfortable and ready to receive guests. They often host visitations, coordinate and oversee funeral ceremonies, lead processions to cemeteries, and coordinate graveside services. The funeral director is the primary person that families interact with. Often lasting friendships develop between a funeral director and a family.
In Ohio, a bachelor’s degree and state licensure following an apprenticeship are required to serve as a funeral director.
Embalmer
The embalmer provides care for the deceased person. This involves bathing, washing hair, setting features, embalming, dressing, and casketing. At Walker, we have a dedicated staff of embalmers in our care center.
In Ohio, a bachelor’s degree in mortuary science and an apprenticeship are required to serve as an embalmer.
Preneed Counselor
Preneed counselors meet with individuals, couples, and families to determine their preferences and plan funerals or memorial events. This often happens years before the time of their death. Preneed counselors need to have the same people skills as funeral directors and be comfortable raising the subject and promoting preneed in the community.
Administrator
Administrators handle all behind-the-scenes paperwork and office details related to funerals and funeral services. This includes working with various software packages to create government-required documents, filing insurance claims, designing and printing memorial products, and other office duties.
Funeral Assistant/Host
This position has several responsibilities, including assisting at visitations and funerals, plus many additional duties around the funeral homes. Having a friendly, outgoing, and comfortable demeanor is necessary. Hours vary and usually include nights and weekends.
These positions are generally part-time, so they work well for people who want flexibility.
Transfer Team Member
Our transfer team members are the people who come to wherever someone has died. They carefully move the deceased person onto a cot and carefully transport them to our care center, where the embalmer takes over care.
