Considering Cremation?

How Walker Funeral Homes & Crematory Addresses the top 4 Concerns of Families we Serve

Concern #1 - Wondering if they receive the correct remains

A quick Google search on the term “cremation mistake” returns 765,000 shocking results. Page after page of examples in which unintentional mistakes resulted in the family receiving the wrong ashes back from a crematory or funeral home.

We believe you should never have to question whether we return the correct ashes to your family. That is why Walker Funeral Homes & Crematory recently built the area’s most state-of-the-art crematory, complete with a beautifully decorated viewing room for families who wish to witness the process.

This new crematory is operated by certified technicians who follow a detailed 33-step cremation security process that greatly exceeds industry standards. Rest assured that we take the secure care of your loved one’s remains very seriously.

Concern #2 – Having the opportunity to say goodbye one last time

Saying goodbye to your loved one is never easy. Unfortunately, in today’s culture, many people try to skip this step. The sad reality is that failing to say goodbye to someone you love leaves emotional wounds that may never heal.

At Walker Funeral Homes & Crematory, whenever possible every family is given the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved one in one of our intimate, well-appointed Private Farewell rooms. If a public visitation is planned the Private Farewell is typically scheduled to precede the public time.

On a practical level, this an important step in our security procedures. On an emotional level, this private time helps family members as they mourn the loss.

Concern #3 – The Timeliness of the Cremation

The timing of the cremation is a major concern for many families we serve. It is common for families to have the body present for visitation and funeral service and want to have the cremated remains available the next day for internment or scattering while the entire family is still gathered.

One advantage of having our own crematory is that with just one phone call to our crematory operator your loved one’s cremation can be scheduled to fit the needs of your family.

This type of express service is something for which most crematories charge extra. However, the Walker Care Team always goes above and beyond to meet your schedule at no additional cost to you.

On rare occasions a cremation will be delayed because of the lack of state mandated medical signatures. Should this happen we will let you know right away so you can plan accordingly.

Concern #4 – Deciding what to do with the cremated remains

All too often a family member receives the cremated remains and are left wondering...now what? Do you scatter the ashes? Do you place them in an urn? What do you do with the urn?

Sadly, failing to consider this issue creates a burden for future generations as they are faced with the task of deciding what to do with the cremated remains of family members. That is why we make it a priority to discuss the important topic with every family we serve.

Fortunately, families in our area have multiple options. For example, we offer our annual memorial scattering cruise on Lake Erie. In addition, some of our local cemeteries have beautiful scattering gardens and most of them offer numerous permanent memorial options.
