Roger Beard left a message on August 30, 2019:
I would have to give Van a huge “Thank You”, because he helped me become the person I am today. Van gave me the opportunity to teach at Owens, first in truck driving then later as a corporate trainer for Travel Centers at CDT. 1998-99, I spent about everyday with him, either in the classroom or out in various meetings....I can still hear his voice as though it was yesterday., especially listening to all of his Navy stories. The fun times we had at Owens...like the code phase “lunch at McDonalds” which meant driving out to the cottage and taking the boat across the bay to the McDonalds on the causeway... His legacy won’t be forgotten....things he taught me, I passed along to others, and I’m sure they will continue to pass on as well.... Good times with a Great Person...here’s a Vernors to you you Van...RIP
