Reading in the obit how Ron loved to reminisce and tell a good story I would like to reminisce and tell a story about Ron witch he probably never shared with anyone. This is one of my all time favorite baseball stories. In the early 1960's Ron was pitching for the AW Merchants in a game against the Toledo Blues in the Toledo Federation League at Scott Park. The Toledo Blues was made up of UT players and our Coach was Chuck Balciluis. Coach Balciluis was still a young man and often played in our games. In this particular game Coach came up to bat and Ron hollared from the mound "Hey Charlie,I heard they wrote a book about you, "Around the Bases in Eighty Days." { Coach was a big guy and truely not very fast] Without hesitation , as if they had rehearsed this, Coach hollared back " Hey Ron I heard they wrote one about you too, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Majors." My early teams at RHS played Ron's fine Scott HS teams. My condolences to Ron's family and friends. Glad I could share my Ron story. Jerry Baumgartner, Rossford HS baseball coach 1969-1984.
