Maureen, Julie, Marcy, Mark, John... Lori & I were saddened to learn of the passing of your husband, Maureen, and father, Julie, Marcy, Mark, John. It seems like only yesterday when the the newlyweds appeared as a new customer on my morning Toledo Times route in South Toledo...on an apartment on University Blvd as I remember ...a subscription gift for their marriage. I remember many visits for family reunions at the McKaig "farm" on Ogontz Road in Maumee before the land was taken for the turnpike construction. Dick was one of the family members that helped me document the history of the Rohr and McKaig families... I will always be thankful for the information he provided. He reminded me so much of his Dad...a practical joker who would go to great extents to "pull your leg" for a laugh! We will truly miss him and all the joy he brought to the Mckaig & Rohr families. We are leaving for our annual trip to Maui Sunday and will miss the memorial service; however, you can be assured we will be there in thought.

Marcie, Julie, Mark and John, I have many fond memories of your dad. His unique dry wit and amazing spirit lit up a room and an example of this comes to mind from Marcie's wedding. Your dad had gone to the hardware store and purchased keys. When I arrived he pulled me aside and told me he had a plan. He wanted to give keys to all of Marcie’s single friends and at a specified time, call us up to the bridal table. We would then sadly return the keys to Rob, as if they were to his house, now that he was officially off the market. His plan went off without a hitch and a big laugh was shared by all, especially Marcie and Rob. To know Dick McKaig you had to know how much he treasured his wife and family. It was entertaining to watch him interact with your mom. Your dad elevated joking around to an art form. He would start with a sarcastic comment, trying to get a reaction from your mom, and I loved when she would roll her eyes and come back with a response to put him in his place. Their 64 year long love story is one of the most inspiring I’ve ever known. He illustrated a life that was WELL LIVED. I will always remember the sparkle in his eye. I hope you find strength in your grieving and joy in your memories.
