Dave Miller created and led the best course I ever took - Philosophy and Literature. I long to recreate that profound experience. Dave demanded excellence and developed leadership skills by challenging me to better myself. Thank you, Dave. *forms of the verb "to be" count = 0;

Mr. Miller was a fantastic Teacher. He stressed personal responsibility which personally was something I very much needed my Senior Year. He failed my Final Paper, rightfully so, which led to me having to retake a summer composition class to graduate. It was the best thing he could have done for me. I was used to being able to "get by", but Mr. Miller required more than that. I am forever grateful now for that seemingly small "bump in the road". God Bless and God Speed.

to one of the first people to treat a student as an adult. I will always remember the time I worked on Comet Tales and I asked Mr. Miller if I could work on it and would make it to class a little late. I missed the entire class. He was upset that I didn't keep my word. I remember how disappointed he was with me. He inspired me from that time forward that I would always keep my word. Thank you Mr. Miller. I will forever be in your debt.

Mr. Miller was the best teacher I ever had, and it is because of him that I learned to write professionally and think critically. He helped me decide to attend BGSU, and that decision was one of the best in my life. He was a wonderful listener and would make you search your soul for an answer rather than just give you one. His legacy is the thousands of students who are successful today because of the teaching and guidance he gave when we were young. My heartfelt condolences to his family, and I want you to know what an impact he had made, how much he was loved, and how much he will be missed.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Sad news to hear today. Dave had a profound impact on our time at GHS. Kevin, Michelle and I still talk about him, his teachings and share many stories from our Philosophy and Lit classes. His dedication to students and education was exemplary.

We were saddened to hear about the passing of our friend, Dave. He was clearly a committed educator dedicated to helping his students succeed. The Genoa area has lost a true legend. Our sincerest sympathy to his family and friends.

Mr. Miller was one of those teachers you never forget. I remember being terrified to speak up in his class. That was until I learned it was expected to speak up (and he let you know when you spoke too quiet or too loud). To this day when I see a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, I think of him. My deepest condolences to the family and close friends of Mr. Miller.
Jerry "Lou" Hebert left a message on September 24, 2019:
I must agree with many others that Mr. Miller, as we knew him in the 1960's, was a great and effective teacher because he not only taught critical thinking, but dared to challenge us to see the world from different angles. He taught more than history, he taught us how to think about history.. He helped liberate our viewpoints while bringing a passion to the classroom that was unique and inspiring.

Thank you for teaching me not to make excuses. Thank you for caring enough about me to always tell me the truth. On to the next journey....

Many heartfelt prayers to Dave’s family and friends. My heart hurts as well, as a very fine educator has gone on. Mr. Miller made us who we are. He pushed us to always do our best and never settle for less. For this I thank him for his dedication to teaching. Thank you for making me feel small, so one day I could be larger than life! (I think this is all grammatically correct. I can still hear your voice in my ear correcting it as I type)

My condolences to surviving family. Mr. Miller was far and away the best teacher I ever had. He didn't teach topics, he taught us how to think about those topics critically. He is the reason I decided to become a teacher, and I try to use some of the methods and discussions we had in his class in my own as often as I can. You will be missed Mr. Miller, but your spirit continues on in all of the student lives you touched over the years.
