Zolton Richard Jambor

January 31, 1941 — April 28, 2026

Richard Zolton Jambor passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 28, 2026 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Dick or Sonny to his many Hungarian aunts, uncles and cousins, was born January 31, 1941, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to Alice (Szemenyei) and Zolton Jambor. They moved to Euclid, OH, where Dick grew up and spent much of his life with his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Sceranka.

After graduating from Euclid High School in 1959, Dick continued his education at Miami University and The Ohio State University, where he earned his law degree, was a proud member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and, with Barb, operated a rooming house in Columbus to work through school. His Chi Phi dedication was reaffirmed when he brought back the OSU chapter via recolonization with his grandson Billy, nearly fifty years after his own time watching the scarlet and gray.

Dick worked briefly for the Ohio attorney general's office and True Temper and then spent the majority of his career as assistant general counsel for the Glidden Company-a passion that bled into his personal life. It showed in his willingness (and perhaps excitement) to take the opposite side of any debate, simply to make the argument and challenge his opponents, who were typically friends and family around the dinner table, usually following steaks and a great red from his infamous wine cellar. Which, by the way, contained at least a case of wine from the specific vintage in the year each of his grandchildren were born.

If he wasn't traveling the world, either for work or with his favorite dance partner, Barb, you may have found him sipping a Mai Tai at sunset on St. Pete Beach, playing with his beloved collies, or buying yet another camera at Circuit City. Or perhaps he'd just driven the current convertible over to Wildwood Yacht Club, where he proudly served as commodore where they still might contractually owe him royalties from a popcorn purchasing agreement from 1989.

For all the places he's been, Dick's favorite was unequivocally being surrounded by family and friends. Whether continuing family traditions on Christmas Eve, imparting wisdom and high standards to his children and grandchildren, recalling and creating memories on the farm, sharing his love of music or simply enjoying Barb's cooking: "Why go out to a restaurant when I have the best chef at home?"

Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara, sister Karen (Les) Stegh, sister-in-law Elaine (Bob) Thompson, children Richard (Susan) Jambor, Jennifer (Joel) Mansperger, and Lauren (Bill) Brown; grandchildren Rich (Trisha) Jambor, Sarah (Tim) Gladieux, Jessie (Glen) Empie, Nicci (Kurt) Wermers, Billy (Tori) Brown, Greg Mansperger, Josie (Brian) Mack, and Peter Mansperger; great-grandsons Miles Richard Jambor, Macklin Lloyd and Finnegan William Wermers, Spencer John Mack, and Louis Zolton Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be hosting a celebration of Dick's life at his favorite gathering spot, Muldoons, on May 20th from 1 to 5.
