WINIFRED I. TOWELL Winifred (Wing) Towell died peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2014. She had just celebrated her 93rd birthday on January 15, surrounded by her loving family. Wini was a Libbey High School graduate (1939) and received an education degree from UT in 1951. Most of her teaching years were spent with first graders at Swanton Twp. School and many of her students still remember her fondly. Wini enjoyed 33 years of retirement with her family, including husband Leland Towell, daughter Jill Roth Boessel, sons John (Jackie) and Philip (Tamara) Towell, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Family members will treasure many memories, including her love of cooking and baking. After a tiring day of teaching, Wini would come home for a nap, then made a delicious meal which often included homemade pie, cake, cookies or brownies. Grandchildren can still remember the sweet smell of sugar cookies when they were at her house for a much welcomed visit. Wini was the youngest girl of 10 children, and was always available to help any of her siblings. She was often asked for advice on issues great and small. She was also a selfless caregiver to her mother Myrtle and sisters Doris and Gwendolyn. Wini was no stranger to sorrow, having lost husband Paul Harrold to World War II, husband Howard Junior Butler (Jill’s father) in 1954, and husband Lee Towell in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys, Doris, Clarice, Evelyn, Lenore, Josephine, Gwendolyn and brothers, Austin and Richard Wing. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 starting at 3 pm, with a memorial service at 7 pm. The family would like to thank Hospice of NW Ohio and the Elizabeth Scott Community for their excellent and compassionate care. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of NW Ohio or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at nevillefuneralhome.com.
