William A. Strayer

William A. Bill Strayer, 73, of Maumee, died Tuesday evening, October 14, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was born October 17, 1940 in Perrysburg to the late Marion L. and Virginia R. (Adams) Strayer. A 1959 graduate of Anthony Wayne High School, Bill attended the University of Toledo and served in the United States Navy. He worked in production planning as the Production Planning/Scheduling Supervisor and Master Scheduler for Libbey Glass for 39 years, retiring in 2000. An active member of his community, Bill served on the boards of Monclova Historical Foundation (Current President), The Lakes of Monclova, Monclova Township Zoning Board (Chairman), and was a member of Garden Road Christian Church. Since his retirement, he was passionate about the revitalization of the Monclova Community Center. Selfless and generous with his time, he volunteered many hours to make the center a vibrant place for all to enjoy. While he loved to work outdoors, particularly gardening, his greatest enjoyment was found in spending time with family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Bill will be remembered for his loyalty, honesty and patient demeanor, and for his terrific sense of humor. He lived his life in such a great way with service to his family, work, and community. Bill was a friend to many and will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Martha (Urban) Strayer; children, Melissa (Tony) Colburn, Amy (Dale) Rose, Stephanie (Marcus) Villagomez, Todd (Bobbie) Strayer and Amanda (Travis) Ratcliff; grandchildren, Jack, Marcus, Jr., Adam, Audrey, Gabby, Owen, Nicholas, Grace, Peter and Andrew; sister, Carolyn (Cecil) Carlson; and brother, Fred (Norma) Strayer. Family and friends are invited to visit from 1-6 p.m. Sunday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Services to celebrate Bills life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Monclova Community Center, 8115 Monclova Road. Interment will be private.
