William R Steel

William R Bill Steel, 67, of Toledo passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Bonnie Heltebrake Steel. Bill graduated from Maumee High School in 1964 and then went on to play football for two years at the University of Toledo. After college he went on to work for the C O Railroad, the Surface Combustion Corporation, and ConAgra Foods, where he retired after 25 years. Bill enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Detroit Tigers. He was a member of the 14th Ward Old Timers Association and enjoyed meeting up with high school classmates for breakfeast on Tuesdays. Bill is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lorrie, brother, R. David Shirley Steel, sister, Penny Rob Greenlese, brother, Jack Pat Steel, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Shirley Streichert, sister-in-law, Sam Jay Lovejoy, brother-in-law, Kenny Streichert, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. Lukes Hospital for all their care and compassion for Bill. Visitation for Bill will be on Monday February 24, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Joanie Schilling on Tuesday February 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
