William (Bill) Sager, 82, of Whitehouse, Ohio, passed away on July 5, surrounded by his family, to whom he devoted his life.
Born on October 2, 1942, in Perrysburg, Ohio, Bill raised his family in Maumee and later retired to Whitehouse. He was a dedicated husband to Connie (Phillips) Sager, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Jennifer, Karen, and Andrew.
Bill graduated from Libbey High School and went on to study business at Davis College and the University of Toledo. During the Vietnam War, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country, an experience that instilled in him a deep and lasting sense of patriotism.
Bill worked in finance for several companies in the Toledo area, including Toledo Scale, where he met Connie. He also owned a small aquarium store, an entrepreneurial venture that reflected both his strong business instincts and love of nature.
He was an avid photographer and captured heartfelt moments throughout the years. He found his joy outdoors, in his yard and garden, where things grew beautifully under his attention and patience. Bill was also a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, as well as the Northwest Ohio Camera Club, the Garden Railway Society, and a local computer club, pursuits that spoke to his wide-ranging curiosity and appreciation for lifelong learning.
Bill devoted himself to family life. He was a constant source of support, guidance, and encouragement, always present, always invested. His influence can be seen in the careers of his children, their character, and the lives they have built.
He is survived by his wife Connie; their children, Jennifer (Adam) Stump, Karen (Cordell) Hansen, and Andrew (Erin) Sager; grandchildren Anna and Max Stump, Collin and Kayla Hansen, and Henry Sager; and his brother, Gordon Sager. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Dorothy Sager.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH where funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 am. Bill will be laid to rest at Roth Memorial Cemetery, with a celebration of his life afterward.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio in tribute of William L. Sager. His life was a testament to the words his own father spoke often: “Family is everything.”
