William J Pospisil

December 6, 1925 — November 21, 2012

William J. Bill Pospisil, 86, died after a lengthy illness on Wednesday Nov. 21, 2012 at Ebeid Hospice. Bill was a man with a quick wit, a joke always ready, and a big smile. He loved making people laugh and had an easy, friendly way with people, even complete strangers. Although he had many ailments over the years, he never complained. He had an inventive mind and tremendous work ethic. Bill was born Dec. 6, 1925 in Toledo. He grew up in Swanton, where he graduated from Swanton High School. Following high school, in 1943, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the 282nd Combat Engineers. He served under Gen. George C. Pattons battalion in the European Theater and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, Bill worked at his parents business, Jo Jos Inn in Swanton. He later had a door-to-door milk route, also in Swanton. He then joined the former Superior Overall Co. as a driver/salesman. It was there he met his future wife, Louise Darah, whom he married on May 9, 1959. In 1968, Bill and Louise founded Caprice Draperies, which they operated 43 years. They focused on commercial and residential clients and were a great team. Bill was a talented billiards player and an enthusiastic boater. He was a long-time member of the Maumee River Yacht Club, where he was a member of the clubs billiards league and where he made many lifelong friends. Bill and his son, Todd, loved restoring antique Corvettes and Bill was a big supporter of Todds stockcar racing hobby. He also was a member of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. Bill loved being with his family - especially, in his later years, with his grandchildren. Every year he and Louise rented a different lake house and the family gathered for a week of boating, fishing and other activities. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Pospisil, and brother, Joe Pospisil. Surviving is his wife, Louise Darah Pospisil; son, Todd; Lynn Greg Schumaker; brother, Robert Mary Pospisil; grandchildren, Taylor and Vince Pospisil; and Ryan and Cody Schumaker; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. where a Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elias, 4949 Harroun Rd., Sylvania. Burial will be at Toledo Memorial Park. Bills family would like to thank everyone at Ebeid Hospice and others for their care for Bill during his illness. Their help and support was a great comfort to the family. The family suggests memorial contributions in Bills name to St. Elias Orthodox Church.
