William Lawrence Meyer Jr., 86, passed away on Sunday March 18, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 27, 1925 to William L. and Anna (Thebes) Meyer Sr. in Toledo, Ohio. He married Ann T. Harrington on November 18, 1950 in Toledo, by Msgr. John L. Harrington. William was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following his marriage to Ann William worked for his father as a salesman for Buckeye Paper Corporation. He later worked for Dalco Machinery for over 19 years before retiring in 1984. After retiring he drove a school bus for Perrysburg City Schools for over 10 years. He was an active parishioner of St. Rose Catholic Church for over 52 years, where he served as an usher and he was a member of The Eucharistic Adoration Group. He was also involved in various funding campaigns, including the Diocesan Development Fund. William treasured his lifelong friendships with his boyhood playmates, who he continued to fish and play cards with through the years. He was a proud member of the “Romeo’s” (retired old men eating out) Luncheon Group. William is survived by his loving children, Marti A. (Kurtis) Helser of Avon Lake, OH., Chris L. (Linda) Meyer of Bowling Green, OH., Kevin D. Meyer of Sarasota, FL., and Daniel P. (Debbie) Meyer of Perrysburg, OH.; grandchildren, Nick, Laura, Eric, Mike, Kelly, Megan and Jason Meyer, Ann and Kate Helser; one great-grandson expected in April; sister, Bette Love and daughter-in-law, Benita Morrow. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ann and son, William M. Meyer. Friends will be received Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 3 – 8 P.M. in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133) where the Rosary will be recited at 7. P.M. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 9:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front St., Perrysburg, Ohio, at 10:30 A.M. with Msgr. Marvin G. Borger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Rose Catholic Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
