William Lawrence

June 26, 1918 — June 15, 2008

William L. Bill Lawrence age 89 of Maumee, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Fathers Day, Sunday June 15, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by his loving family. Bill died of natural causes. He was born Canton, OH on June 26, 1918 to Marion and Hazel Edwards Lawrence. Bill began his career at Sun Oil Refinery in 1939. While working at Sun Oil, he was a Process Engineer, working his way up to Supervisor of Operations before retiring in July of 1978. After retirement, Bill was employed part-time at Maison-Dardenne Funeral Home in Maumee where he enjoyed working with people. He always had a smile on his face was always quick to help someone in need. Bill began giving blood to the American Red Cross beginning in 1942 and continued thru 2005. He gave over 540 donations, close to 70 gallons of blood. Bill was active in several area churchs over the years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Maumee and held many positions in the church. Bill was selected to lead the Bethel Bible Series Classes. There, he was the first Bell Choir Director. He also enjoyed singing in the choir. He most recently attended Stonebridge Church in Perrysburg. Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving his country during WWII. He had served 7 years in the Navy. Before going over seas, Bill met the love of his life, Alexandra Medvedeff on a blind date. After returning home from the war, they were married on February 23, 1946 in Akron, OH. In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family at Cedar Point. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alex; children, Robert Kristina Lawrence, Susan Russ McEwen, David Gloria Lawrence and Timothy Sue Lynn Lawrence; grandchildren, Sarah, Bronwyn, Todd, Mark, Amanda, Matt, and Mike; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle Bill, Dakota and Jacob; brother and sisters, Jack Sally Lawrence, Elizabeth Richard Frey and Dr. Jean Dr. James Bryant. Also surviving are his special pets, Stella and Rudi. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susan Lawrence; twin brother, Robert Lawrence and brother, David Lawrence. Friends may call at the Masion-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St. Maumee on Wednesday June 18, 2008, from 2-8 pm with the Maumee Fire Department conducting services at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am. in the funeral home. Private Interment will be held for family members at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Odyssey Health Care for their wonderful care of Bill. Memorial contributions may be made to Stonebridge Evangelical Church Presbyterian Church, Perrysburg, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg or Odyssey Health Care, Maumee.
