William J. Johnston age 84 of Toledo passed away on Friday December 12, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 18, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan to Eric R. and Thelma M. Johnston. A paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean war, he was a truck driver and dock worker for Liberty Highway Trucking and then Suburban Motor Freight retiring in 1984. A Teamster Local 20 member, he was a car fanatic selling cars as a hobby and was also a dirt track racer. He enjoyed watching boxing and talking to people. Bills family was most important to him and he enjoyed having family join him at his cottage in northern Michigan. Bill was preceded in death by a grandchild Grace Katherine Koester; sisters and their spouses Betty Jean (Gene) Kaiser and Pauline (Johnny) Begin; brothers-in-law Gene Schneider, and James (Marilyn) Schneider; and sister-in-law Margaret (Franz) Hennig. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; daughters Patricia (Michael) Cluckey, and Belinda (Larry) Koester; sons Michael (Kerry) and Jay Johnston; grandchildren Sean (Jyl) and Eric Cluckey; Shannon (DJ) Belkofer, Abigail, Nikolaus and William Koester, Evan, Elliot, Emerson, Zachary (Randi Lee) and Kendra Johnston; great grandchildren Trent, Jaxon, Wesley and Isabella; brother Robert Johnston; sister Shirley Mcman; sisters-in-law Barb Schneider, Mary (Milton) Juers and Rosie (James) Fleitz; and brother-in-law Louis (Mary Ann) Schneider. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Monday from 3-8 PM where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 PM Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 10:15 AM in the funeral home followed by the funeral liturgy at 11 AM at Little Flower Church 5522 Dorr St. Toledo. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Lake Township Park Fund, William Johnston Memorial 5153 Scenic Hwy. M-22 Honor Michigan 49640.
