William “Bill” Jappsen went to his eternal home on July 31, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1938 in Port Clinton, Ohio to Hans and Grace (Benya) Jappsen. In third grade Bill moved with his family out to a small farm in Chesterfield Township. He graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1956. After graduation he worked for several years in construction. Bill eventually moved back to Port Clinton where he began working for New Departure until his retirement.
Bill loved to cook for friends and family and was especially known for his famous Lake Erie perch fish fry’s. He loved to cheer on his favorite Ohio teams, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Cleveland Indians. Bill was also a proud member of the UAW Local 913.
Bill is survived by his twin sister Wilma Garrow and her husband Edward Garrow, along with his nephews Mark Garrow, Matthew (Jane) Garrow, Mitchell (Julie) Garrow, niece Myra (Mark) Wolfrum, great nieces Victoria (Zac) Muehlfeld and Melanie Wolfrum, and great nephew Erich Wolfrum and great- great nephew Finnley Muehlfeld.
The family would like to thank Promedica Toledo Hospital, McGruder Hospital, and Edgewood Manor for providing care and comfort in Bill’s final days. The family would also like to thank all his friends who regularly checked in and visited with Bill.
Per Bill’s request, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit at Gerner- Wolf- Walker Funeral Home at 216 Washington St, Port Clinton, OH 43452 on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 9:00 to 11:00 with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00.
Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
