William Harry Bill Herl

William “Bill” Harry Herl, 85, of Oak Harbor, passed away Friday, February 03, 2017 at the Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, OH. He was born on August 11, 1931 in Port Clinton, OH to Harry and Edna (Lipstraw) Herl. On May 7, 1952 in Louisville, KY he married Jeannette Roberts, and she preceded him in death on July 30, 2016. Bill worked as a steel hauler, starting out working for State Representative Paul Gillmor hauling bricks and for A.F. Posnick, Inc. hauling fuel oil for schools. He then drove truck for Matlack, Inc. and for PGT Transportation, retiring on his 60th birthday. Bill was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor and the Masonic Lodge #495 FAM, Oak Harbor. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, and he loved animals. Bill is survived by his daughters, Susan L. Herl and Jenny L. (Jim) Smith, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughters, Cynthia J. (Cromer) Zwierlein and Kathleen K. (Cromer) Skinner. Funeral services for Bill will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH with visitation two hours prior to the service from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be given to the Ottawa County Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
