William D. Hasselbach, 73, died on Monday, October 22, 2018, at his residence in Sun City Oro Valley, Oro Valley, AZ from Gastroesophageal Cancer. He was born in Port Clinton, OH and grew up on a farm in Oak Harbor to Dale Arthur Hasselbach and Helen Mary Snyder Hasselbach. On August 11, 1978, he married Karen Holden and she survives. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Stautzenberger Business College and 4-year Journeyman’s Degree. Bill worked at Johns Manville, 38 years; first In Waterville, OH and then transferred to Tucson, AZ. Survivors also include his son, David (Candi) Hasselbach, Logan, KS and daughter, Scherry Halderman, Centennial, CO; his sister, Betty Collins, Port Clinton, OH; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Scherry said “he always showed me the type of person that I continually aspire to be. He was my professional mentor, confident, handyman (always came to Denver with his toolbox), cheerleader, friend, and the best dad a little girl could have asked for.” He was preceded in death by his sisters, Wynne Shanteau, Oak Harbor, OH and Marcia Kayden, Mesquite, NV. He was member of Jaycees, Woodville, OH; Lions Clubs in Fostoria and Port Clinton, OH; and member of St Mark’s United Methodist Church, Tucson, AZ. He and Karen twice navigated America’s Great Loop by water each taking a year. His hobbies included bridge, tennis, boating and woodworking. A Memorial Service will be Friday, November 2, 10:30 AM at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Tucson, AZ. Mr. Hasselbach’s body was donated to The University of Arizona College of Medicine through The Willed Body Program. Memorials may be made to the church, Sun City Vistoso Community Foundation or American Cancer Society.
