William D. Gladden, 77, of Genoa, died Monday, April 18, 2011, in Mercy-St. Vincent Medical Center, after a very short illness. Bill was born March 14, 1934, in Keener, Alabama, to William N. and Ora Fredericks Gladden. On August 29, 1954, in Luckey, Ohio, he married Nelda E. Dorfmeyer and she survives. Bill worked as an operating engineer out of Operating Engineers Union, I.U.O.E. Local in Toledo. He started his employment with Nelson Purtee Co. in Genoa and had also worked 16 years at Nicholson Concrete Co. Bill was a former assistant fire chief for the Clay-Genoa Volunteer Fire Dept., now the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. #3 in Genoa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing horseshoes and was an avid NASCAR fan. Bill is survived by his wife, Nelda, his children, Kevin Sue Gladden of Genoa, Denise Bill Berndt of Maumee, Brian D. Gladden of Circle Pines, MN, and Jason Becky Gladden of Hilliard, OH; his grandchildren, Sy, Andrew and Maggie Gladden, Joshua, Brandon and Brianna Gladden, Nathaniel and Madison Gladden and Alyssa and Adam Berndt; great grandchildren, Camden, Marcus, Colin, Trey, Brendan and Nathan. He is also survived by his sister, Nora Harold Wiseman of Helena and brother, Arlis Linda Gladden of Loganton, PA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Martha Gladden, sister, Mary Sue Heminger, and brothers, George and Charles Gladden. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2011, in the funeral home with interment to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. The family suggests memorials for Bill to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. #3, Genoa, or the Genoa Senior Center.
