William Frost

May 28, 1939 — May 23, 2023

William “Bill” Edward Frost, 83, of Toledo, Ohio and Bellaire, Michigan, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on May 23, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on May 28, 1939, to his late parents, Robert and Doris (Wooster) Frost, and grew up in Northville, Michigan alongside his sister, Rosemary. He attended Northville High School, graduating in 1957, and furthered his education at Eastern Michigan University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. Bill was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, and it was during this time that he became reacquainted with the woman who would later become his wife, Mary. The two started dating, and before they knew it, were married with two children, Jim and Julie. Bill was very involved in their growing-up years. He loved being a part of their lives through sports, Indian Guides, Indian Princesses, and many school activities. Later, he became a very special grandfather to his six grandchildren whom he dearly loved.

In his professional career, Bill worked as a project engineer across the auto industry. In his free time, he enjoyed billiards and woodworking. He also loved being outdoors while boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, and long-distance cycling. Bill completed a total of 17 DALMAC bicycle tours, as well as one DALMAC Quad Century, where he biked 500 miles in five days. He was quite determined and loved riding different tours, especially when there was an ice cream shop or bakery along the way. He had a gift for giving detailed directions and instructions, which anyone could depend upon. Bill had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs, and never went long without having one. An abundance of wonderful family memories were made at the house on Clam Lake in Bellaire, Michigan, where he spent many enjoyable weekends and later retired. There he participated in the Traverse City Steelheaders and Alden Men’s Club. Bill loved going out to eat and was an avid reader covering a broad array of genres. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with his wife where they made a lifetime of memories across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and many other places including Egypt, Jordan, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. While residing in Michigan, Bill and Mary ushered at the Fischer Theatre where they watched many shows, including his favorite, Les Misérables. Bill spent the last 22 winters in Florida, golfing, golf-cart riding, woodworking, playing billiards, and going out to breakfast and dinner. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed spending many hours volunteering at Helping Hands, a program of the New Covenant United Methodist Church. He thoroughly enjoyed refurbishing mobile homes for the needy.

Bill was a generous man who loved doing things for people. He was a thoughtful gift giver, selecting presents with special thought to the recipient. He dedicated much of his time to helping his wife and children around the house. Bill loved projects, especially when the task involved using a major tool or two, earning him the moniker of “Grandpa Fix-it.” He was deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Mary Frost; children, James Frost (Diana Schlaff), Julie (Darren) Morgan; grandchildren, Eliana, Raelyn, Avonlea, Isaac, and Elijah Morgan; sister, Rosemary Nester; sister-in-law, Shirley Lamp. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Abigail Morgan; brother-in-law, Gerald Nester; and aunt, Elsie McMurray.
