William R. Engler

July 3, 1923 — February 12, 2008

ENGLER William R. William Rollen Engler, 84 years, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at his West Toledo home. A graduate of Macomber High School, Bill served in the Army Infantry for three years during W.W. II receiving the Expert Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. After returning home, he joined his father who established R.G. Engler Plumbing and Heating Co. in 1913. He passed his examinations and became a Master Plumber and Steamfitter, spending 39 years working and managing the company now known as R.G. Engler and Son, a third generation family business. Bill was a member of the Masons, Toledo Fort Industry #144, Fort Industry Chapter #208, Grafton Acklin Council #127, Scottish Rite Toledo, Zenobia Temple, Zenobia Legion of Honor, Zenobia Campers, West Toledo High Twelve Club, Ft. Industry Chapter #391 O.E.S., he was a life member of Weller Post American Legion, 61 years and he was also a longtime member of Mayfair Plymouth Congregational Church. He loved to sail his Interlake 695 and was a past member of Maumee River Yacht Club and Jolly Rogers Sailing Club. He enjoyed spending 12 years with his sons in scouting. Traveling in his motor home throughout the Southwest in the winters was one of his great pleasures. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian J. Engler; sons Kenneth Pamela and Thomas H. Engler; granddaughters, Michelle Mike Kaiser and Heather Engler; and sister, Marjorie Arney. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-9:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am.
