William D. Eggleston, Md

Eggleston, MD, FACR William D. Dr. William D. Eggleston passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the age of 77. Bill was born in Dearborn, Michigan on August 8, 1930 to Gilbert and Ruth Eggleston. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1952 and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1956. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served as Captain from 1960 to 1962 at Lackland Air Force Base Hospital, San Antonio, TX. Bill was a physician specializing in radiation oncology for 37 years and was the Director of the Toledo Hospital Oncology Center from 1977 until his retirement in 1997. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and his professional memberships included the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Society, and the Academy of Medicine of Toledo/Lucas County. He was a member of the Northwest Ohio Radiological Society, where he was a past president. Dr. Eggleston was also a past board member of the Lucas County Cancer Society, an elected member of the Executive Committee at the Toledo Hospital, a past member of the Toledo Rotary Club, a member of the Board of Trustees of Home Away From Home, Inc. Ronald McDonald House, a member of the Advisory Board to the Wellness Community, and was a current member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marcia. Their favorite destinations included Tortola, B.V.I., the Florida Keys, Europe, and Michillinda Beach Lodge in Whitehall, MI. One of his most memorable trips, shared with his entire family, was a 50th anniversary cruise which visited Tortola, B.V.I. He was an enthusiastic and well known supporter of University of Michigan football, dating back to his attendance at the infamous Snow Bowl with OSU in 1950. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Rockwell Springs Trout Club. He was also an active watercolorist, exhibiting in Physician as Artist and a member of the Monday Morning Painters. His other interests included rose gardening and a good tennis game. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia, son, Mark of New York City and daughter Julie Waidelich John and granddaughter Morgan of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen and his parents. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00-6:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue west of Corey Rd.. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Drive, Toledo, OH 43615. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Epworth United Methodist Church at the above address or to the Ronald McDonald House, Toledo at 3883 Monroe St. Toledo, OH 43606.
