William Joseph Dupps, 83, of Port Clinton, passed away Tuesday March 8, 2022, at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born on June 24, 1938 (though legally recorded as June 25 on his birth certificate) in Jasper, Indiana to Lucas and Hedwig (Birk) Dupps. On February 24, 1968, at St. Michael Church in Findlay, Ohio, he and Jacqueline Ann Alge were married. They celebrated their 54 th wedding anniversary at Otterbein Northshore SeniorLife in Marblehead where they resided together.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son William (Gretchen) of Bay Village, daughter Heidi (Gary) Steyer of Port Clinton, and 6 beloved grandchildren (Taylor, Alexandra, Lauren, Paige, Christian and Adrianne). He is also survived by sisters Carol Libbert of Huntingburg, Indiana and Ruth Stipp, Hemet, California, and brother Charles (Donna) of Jasper, Indiana. He was preceded in death by sisters Rosemary and Judy and his parents.
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Jasper High School (Indiana) and served as Military Police in the National Guard. He attended Purdue University where he was President of the Newman Club at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center and graduated with a B.S. in sociology and urban planning. He moved to Port Clinton in 1966 to become the city’s regional planning director, then began a city planning consulting business in 1969. He and wife Jackie founded what would become Dupps Printing & Supply, which operated for over 40 years on Madison St. Bill was an active member of his community: Member of Knights of Columbus, Port Clinton Elks, co-founder of the Port Clinton Downtown Business Association and member of the Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Put-in-Bay and Peninsula Chambers of Commerce. He served on the Boards of Riverview Industries and the Vineyard on Catawba and was President of Kiwanis Club of Port Clinton. He was an active member of St. Joseph Church in Marblehead and Immaculate Conception Church in Port Clinton, serving as teacher, council member, Eucharistic Minister, and in many outreach activities for those in need. He coached Little League Baseball, loved gardening, camping and long walks, polka dancing with his grandkids and adored spending time with his family.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-6 p.m. Sunday March 13, 2022, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton. Bill’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2022, with the Rev. John Missler at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 Madison St., Port Clinton. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.
