William Franklin Davis

July 21, 1926 — April 5, 2014

William Franklin Davis, 87, of Perrysburg, OH died, April 5, 2014 at Waterford at Levis Commons after a long battle with Alzheimers. Bill was born on July 21, 1926 in Huntingdon, PA to George and Anna Catherine (Beck) Davis. He came to Toledo in 1967. Bill graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1944 after which he joined the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre on Okinawa. Following his discharge, he enrolled in Penn State University graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Commerce and Finance. He had been a member of the R.O.T.C. and captain of the Air Force Reserve, serving in the Accounting and Finance sector. Bill was also a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He began his career with Owens - Corning Fiberglass Corporation in Huntingdon, PA in 1950 as a General Accounting supervisor. He later was assigned to the start-up of the Aiken South Carolina for Owens-Corning in 1960 as the plant Accounting Cost Control Manager. In 1967, he was promoted and relocated to Toledo as a Textile Manufacturing Accounting Supervisor, ending his 36 years with the company as Corporate Accounting System Control Manager. He retired in 1986. Bill was a member of the National Association of Accountants, the Perrysburg VFW Post 6170, Past President of the Bowling Green Evening Lion’s Club and Bowling Green Elks. He served on the Perrysburg Municipal Planning Commission, and was a serving life member of the Lutheran Church, joining Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg in 1970. He had many interests and was active in youth activities, Boy Scout Leader, hunting and fishing, tying his own lures, golf, football and Elderhostels, after retirement. Bill was a beloved husband, grandfather and great-grandfather and is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marcelene; children, Catherine, Bradford (Carol), Gail, and Randall (Pamela); grandchildren, Amber, Casey, Maggie (Matt), Kali, Nichole (Scott), Gregory, Elisa (Patrick), Maxim; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Zoe, Corbin, Trevor and Savannah; sister, Francis Davis Black; nephew, Scott (Ellen) Black. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received from 11 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Timothy P. Philabaum officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in the form of contributions to Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg, OH 43551 or to Odyssey-Gentiva, 1745 Indian Woods Circle, Suite 200, Maumee, OH 43537.
