William T. Coon, M.D.

William T. Coon, M.D., 85, of Marblehead, OH, passed away from a stroke, Thursday, August 29, 2018, at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Bill was born on June 06, 1933 in Port Clinton OH, the son of Herbert George and Grace Edna (Bearss) Coon. Bill graduated from PCHS in 1951, valedictorian. Bill attended Ohio University for his undergraduate degree, where Bill was the first chapter president of SAE Fraternity, then medical school at The Ohio State University and completed USAF Aerospace Medicine training. Bill served in the U. S. Air Force as a Captain and Flight Surgeon for 7 years. Bill returned to his roots to practice family medicine for 30 years in Port Clinton supporting the Ottawa County area. He also served both the Ottawa County Board of Health and the H. B. Magruder Hospital Board. Bill was a member of Firelands Presbyterian Church, Trinity United Methodist Church both of Port Clinton and Matecumbe Methodist Church, Islamorada, FL. Bill enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with Key Largo Match Pointers and the Sandusky Senior Center Duplicate Bridge Club but his lifelong passions were hunting and fishing with his family. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory are: loving wife of 63 years: Jo A. Coon of Marblehead; Sons: Thomas M. Coon and his wife Kanathisa of Bangkok, Thailand, Jeffrey A. Coon and his wife Valerie of Redding, CA, Michael H. Coon and his wife Laurie of Dublin, OH and Stephen W. Coon and his wife Kristin of Zion, IL; 17 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8pm, Tuesday, September 04, 2018 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Firelands Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Firelands Presbyterian Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton or Matecumbe Methodist Church, Islamorada ,FL.
