William “Bill” Ballmer, 67, of Toledo, OH, after a lengthy illness, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Maumee, OH, Bill dedicated his life to service, spending 25 years as a Toledo firefighter—a career he took immense pride in. Upon retirement, he took up a second job as a transport driver for TLC Transit. His commitment to helping others was a reflection of his generous spirit, quiet strength, and deep sense of duty. Bill was stoic, hardworking, and endlessly kind. He gave selflessly, asked for little in return, and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will live on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
Beyond his work, Bill found joy in building, remodeling, yardwork, and watching old Western movies. But above all, he cherished his family, especially his five grandchildren—Owen, Madelyn, Emerson, Payton, and Emmett—who were the light of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Terri, and his two children, Debbie (Craig) Mader and Steven (Meghan) Ballmer. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Kathy Ballmer, Betsy Maps, Joe (Diane) Ballmer, Mike (Lisa) Ballmer, Mary Pat (Jim) Matuszak; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father (Robert), his mother (Anne Marie), brother (Bob), and brother-in-law (Charlie Maps).
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of University of Toledo Medical Center (3rd and 4th floor units) and Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Toledo).
A viewing will be held at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home (501 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537) on Tuesday, April 8th from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00 am, immediately followed by a processional to his final resting place at Lake Township Cemetery in Millbury, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and the Toledo Firefighters Museum.
