William Anthony Ashe, age 84 passed into eternal life November 13 2009. He was Born October 4 1924, son of James Edgar Ashe and Clara Cramer Ashe. William Ashe graduated of Maumee High School as captain of the football team. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII as a Pharmacists Mate 1st class and X-Ray technician achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He fought in the Battle of Okinawa in a C-3 Hull. William earned his BA in 1950 at the University of Detroit and his MA at the University of Detroit in 1951. After University, he worked locally for a couple of years before starting employment with Firestone Rubber at Monrovia Liberia, Harball Plantation. Mr. Ashe drove across Africa from Liberia to Kenya. He also traveled through Egypt, the Holy Land, Greece, Italy, France and England on his return to America. After Africa, he then worked for Allied Chemicals, then Wyandotte Chemicals, finally to BASF. Mr. Ashe gave lectures in Germany and Italy. After retirement, he was the guest lecturer French Ministry of Science. William was President of Detroit Testing Laboratories during the 1990s. After retirement, he traveled the world as a member of Elderhostel. William was preceded in death by siblings James P Ashe, Vincent J Ashe, Clara M Ashe, and Joan M Zuelke. He is survived by his children Mariah James Hope and William Christy Ashe; grandchildren Aliyah, Augustus James, and Lida Rose; brothers Charles and Thomas and sisters, Carol and Margaret. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant St. Maumee on Thursday November 19, 2009 from 3-8 pm where funeral services will be begin on Friday at 9:30 am followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
