Wilbur Conway Moore passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, at Mercy Perrysburg Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 11, 1939, to Herbert O. and Ruth A. (Dorr) Moore, the third of four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol (Wingate), his brother Clifford; and his former wife Catherine (Gembolis). Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Herbert; his sons, Michael (Jackie), David (Jennifer), Steven (Gretchen), and Nicholas (Jennifer); his grandchildren Joseph, Chris, John, Greg, Meredith, Eammon, Anneliese, Henry, Jonas, Wilbur, Olivia, and Sophia; his best friend, Scott Mahoney; extended family and the many lives he touched with his kindness.
A 1957 graduate of Bedford High School, he enjoyed staying in touch with his fellow classmates throughout the years. He married Catherine Gembolis in June 1965 and was a devoted husband and father. He worked in the trucking industry for many years, but realized his calling to ministry and was ordained a permanent deacon in the Catholic church in 1979. He faithfully served at St. Clement Parish until his retirement and ministered as a chaplain at Toledo Hospital and the Toledo Mental Health Center.
He enjoyed health and fitness and was active as a runner, participating in races up to the half marathon. His love for the outdoors was evident as a child and this passion continued throughout his life. Camping and long walks in the Toledo Metro Parks were among his favorite interests.
He embodied the Great Commandment and was quick to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement. After many faithful years guiding the lost sheep, he has returned to the Good Shepherd.
