Wilbur O. Matthews, 94, of Swanton, Ohio died peacefully Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Swanton Health Care Center. He was born in Borton, Illinois on April 9, 1920 to James Urban and Nellie (Patterson) Matthews. Wilbur proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Following his service he worked for L.O.F. as a glass handler for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Wilbur enjoyed puzzles, being in his yard, wood working and country music. He was a handy man and built pole barns throughout the years. Wilbur is survived be his children, Helena Kowalski, Scott (Juanita) Matthews, Larry (Judith) Matthews, Betty Wenzlick, Bonnie (Frank) Long, Donald (Jill) Matthews, Larry (Sue) Sobczak, Tim (Donna) Sobczak, Sandy (Tim) Shastain, Vicki (Gerald Binney) Clevenz and Michael Sobczak; 32 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Sampson. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Norma R. Sobczak-Matthews; stepsons, Thomas Sobczak and Gary Sobczak; sisters, Rena Stanford, Erma Sweet and Betty Fayden; brothers, Junior Matthews, Donald Matthews and James Matthews. Friends will be received at Neville Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Hwy. Holland, OH (419-865-8879) on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
