Kopp Wilbur John, Sr. Wilbur John Kopp, Sr. passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at home after a 5 month battle with bladder cancer. He was born to Oscar and Neva Kopp on August 20, 1927. He joined the U.S. Army during WWII and was discharged on April 28, 1947. He served his country as a demolition expert and a truck driver delivering supplies in the Philippines. He was awarded the Victory Medal in recognition of his endeavors. Wilbur was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He met the love of his life, Doris Jean Dorf in 1945, and they married in 1949. Wilbur worked for the City of Toledo for ten years, then for Kuhlmans Corporation as a cement truck driver for 36 years. He has enjoyed his retirement for 18 years. Wilbur and Doris raised 5 children moving to Port Clinton in 1974. They then moved to Neapolis, Ohio in 1998. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Neva Moon Kopp; his older brother, Norval; and his twin brother, Warren. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Cindy Rick Hayes, Sheila Kirk Colvin, Jennifer Robert Tefft, and Carrie David Brewer; son, Wilbur John Jr.; and sister, Cirrue Potter. Wilbur has 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Tuesday from 2-9:00pm with V.F.W services at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00am with interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
