Wesley John Greener, 89, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013 with family at his side. Born August 9. 1924 in Elmore. Ohio to John and Mollie Bahnsen Greener. Wes lived most of his life in the Curtice area except for his beloved winters in Florida as a snowbird. In addition to his wife, Kip, Wes is survived by children: Kay Dennis Green of Indianapolis, IN, Bonnie MichaelGomez of Sylvania, Jeffery Janice Greener of Lafayette, IN, Mark Greener of Curtice, Richard Amy Greener of Petersburg, MI, and Michael Susan Greener of Curtice, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and sister-in-law: Donna Greener, of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ruth Hemminger, Wilma Konieczny, brothers: Ervin, John, Jr., David Greener. Wes and Kip were married on October 27, 1956 in Angola, Indiana. He was a World War II Veteran, serving as a tank crewman in Gen. George Pattons Third Army, 4th Armored Division and was awarded three bronze stars. After the war, he began his career as an auto body repairman and painter, working tor Dunn Motor Sales in Curtice and later Brown Pontiac of Toledo. Wes was known for his body work talents and some of his restorations went to private collections and car museums. Each of his children and even some nephews had at least one car restored by Wes and he often had them work by his side to learn the craft. Wes was a natural teacher and gave much of his time to help others, whether it was as a 4-H leader or in his own garage. In 1968, Wes became a licensed pilot and enjoyed many years working on and flying his Taylorcraft single engine plane. He loved fishing on Lake Erie with his family and was an avid Euchre player. In later years, he took up wood carving during winters in Florida. Wes always enjoyed his second home and friends at Lazy River Village in North Port, Florida. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Genoa and the American Legion Christ Dunberger Post 537, Oregon, Ohio. A special thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and all the aides and nurses who provided comfort and support to Wes and the family. Visitation for Wes will be 2-4 6-8 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted at St John United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St, Genoa on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston. Memorials for Wes may be directed to St John United Church of Christ or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
