Wendy (Weston) Held, 62, passed away May 11, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and close friends during her last days. Wendy was born May 26, 1961, to Pete and Barbara (Brell) Weston. She grew up in Perrysburg and attended St. Rose for elementary school and McAuley High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Dayton.
Wendy spent her childhood summers with extended family at Devil’s Lake as well as at the family condo in Florida. She loved to travel and spend time by the water. In college, she had a tight-knit group of friends. Wendy had a passion for art, photography, and writing which led to her first job at the Perrysburg Messenger Journal. She loved reporting and writing about the happenings in both Rossford and Perrysburg.
Wendy married the love-of-her-life, Ted Held, on September 26, 1994. They adopted sons Cristian and Theo from Guatemala. Wendy enjoyed being a mom and was active at both Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns schools when the boys were young. Even after the boys were in high school, Wendy would help with craft projects at Vacation Bible School. Wendy worked in various roles at the family business, Perrysburg Pipe & Supply Company.
Wendy’s greatest love was being a mother to Cristian and Theo. She cherished the days she spent with Ted and the boys at the lake. She also supported the boys in all their endeavors whether that was soccer or baseball, checking out a culinary school, or starting a lawn-mowing business. They knew she was always their biggest supporter. She was so proud of the young men they have grown up to be.
Wendy had a great sense of humor, and her laugh was contagious. No one had a laugh like Wendy’s. She was kind to everyone. But she would always tell you what she thought; she didn’t hide her opinion. She had a quick wit. She was a wonderful cook (everyone loved her Grass Hopper Pie) and a great hostess. She enjoyed working in the garden and tending to her beautiful backyard. She was an avid reader and could talk endlessly about her favorite books. Wendy enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, especially when it was accompanied by her favorite, white wine spritzer. She could be found regularly relaxing on the back porch with cherished friends. Wendy did not like to wear socks and she would wear her favorite Birkenstocks until it was well into winter. She enjoyed leisurely Saturdays getting pedicures and lunch with friends.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ted, and sons, Cristian (Jenna Voigt), and Theo. She is also survived by her sister, Betsy Hood (Mike); brother, Matthew Weston; and nephew, Nick Hood. She also had many close friends who were like family. Wendy will be missed by all who knew her.
