Wendy Cortez

Wendy A. Cortez, 73, of Port Clinton, OH passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, OH. She was born on December 16, 1951 in Port Clinton, OH to Ralph and Audrey (Simon) Cornell. She attended both Oak Harbor High School and Port Clinton High School. On November 28, 1970 in Port Clinton, OH she married Juan Cortez, Jr., and he survives. Wendy worked as a homemaker and years ago as a chef at Phil’s Inn in Port Clinton with her mom and also as a manager at the Family Dollar store in Port Clinton.

Wendy enjoyed sewing, crafting, cooking, baking, and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Port Clinton with her husband. Her family was most important to her, especially her grandkids that referred to her as “Nonnie”. Wendy never missed an event for her kids and grandkids, and even served as a teacher’s aide for her kids as they went through school. She was always there for her family. Her companionship and her personality will be greatly missed.

In addition to her loving husband of 54 years, Juan, Wendy is survived by her sons, Juan “Eddie” (Jessica) Cortez and Toby Adam (Peggy) Cortez, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters, Sandy Day and Nancy Dunkley, son-in-law, Michael Webster, sister-in-law, Esmeralda Cortez, brothers-in-law, Robert Densmore and Apolonio (Elva) Cortez, and 14 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sonya Webster, brothers, James Cornell, Doug Cornell, and David Cornell, brother-in-law, Dick Day, and sister-in-law, Viola Densmore.

Cremation will take place under the direct care of the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial services for Wendy will be announced at a later date with interment in LaCarpe Cemetery, LaCarne, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Wendy may be given to the Susan G.
