Wendell Sylvester Schnell

January 19, 1927 — November 13, 2020

Wendell Schnell, 93, of Toledo passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 13, 2020. Wendell was born on January 19, 1927 in Toledo, OH to the late Wendell and Edna Schnell. After graduating from Maccomber High School, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in the Pacific front of World War II. After returning from the war, he met the love of his life, Jane Hickman. They were married in Toledo on November 15, 1951. Together, they lovingly welcomed and raised two children, William and Sarah. Wendell was a hardworking and dedicated employee. With the skills he learned as a mechanic during the war, he worked as a mechanic for Red Star, Jones Motor, and most recently, Wonder Bread. This love of fixing cars and trucks, fed his obsession to know how anything and everything worked, tinkering with anything he could get his hands around. He will be remembered most for that inquisitive mind, his love of Lawrence Welk, Big Band Music, old cars, war movies, estate sales, and garage sales. Above all, his family will always look back and miss the love and dedication he showed to each and every one of them. Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Jane Schnell; his children, William Schnell (Beth) of Kentucky and Sarah Dollarhide (Joel) of Oregon, OH; and his grandchildren, William Schnell (Lia), Elizabeth Schnell, Joel Dollarhide (Taylor), Ben Dollarhide (Holly), Olivia Dollarhide (Nick), and Grace Dollarhide. He is proceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Dawson. At Wendell’s request, funeral services will not be held. In lieu of flowers, Wendell’s family asks that you make time to go on a drive to and a walk around Maumee Bay State Park with your own family, as he enjoyed so many times these past few years.
