Wendell Jay Markley

Wendell J. Markley, 72, of Martin, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born in Martin on November 26, 1949, the son of Wilbur H. and Lucille K. (Emmerich) Markley. Wendell graduated from Woodmore High School and received his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Bowling Green State University. He went on to Eastern Kentucky University to complete his master’s degree. He met the love of his life, Janice K. (Dyck), and they were married in Columbus, Ohio on June 18, 1977.

Wendell loved teaching chemistry and physics to teenagers. He began his teaching career in Ada, Ohio and Pickerington, Ohio, later moving to Woodmore Local Schools, where he taught for 36 years until his retirement. Wendell also enjoyed farming the family farm and did so for 25 years while teaching.

Wendell always started his day with smile and was happy and cheerful all day long. He loved people and enjoyed leading after school kids’ clubs in the Toledo Public School system. His grandchildren were very special to him, and he always cherished time spent with them, especially playing games.

Wendell is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years, Janice; son, Carl (Brianne) Markley, daughter, Emily (A.J.) Tan; and grandchildren, Reghan Markley, Norah Markley, and Jinelle Markley. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Markley.

Visitation for Wendell will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM, on Monday, January 31, 2022, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, Ohio.
