It has pleased Almighty God in His infinite wisdom to call Weldon Carlos Shively, 102, of Holland, OH to his heavenly home. He passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at Astor House at Spring Meadows. He was born November 3,1913 on the family farm in Lindsey, OH, the son of Ivan Delbert and Laura Irene (nee Shoemaker) Shively. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and his beloved wife, Eva May (nee Baker) Shively whom he married on August 20,1937 in St. John Lutheran Church, Fremont, OH. After graduation from Fremont Ross High School in 1931, Weldon worked at the Fremont News Messenger as an apprentice printer. In 1942 he moved to Columbus, OH to work for Hartley Printing Publishing as a linotype operator and plant foreman. Prior to retiring in 1975 he also worked briefly at Duplex Printing and the Columbus Dispatch. He was a lifetime member of the International Typographical Union #5. Weldon was a devoted and loving husband, father, and friend. His strong faith was witnessed by all who knew him as were his fine-tuned handyman skills. He became quite the fisherman while living in Ft. Myers, Florida. Weldon is survived by his two sons, Gary (Yvonne) Shively of Paris, Illinois; Duane (Diana) Shively of Grand Rapids, OH; daughter Joy Hodak of Maumee; six grandchildren Daniel, Mark, Karl Shively, Nick Hodak and Nicole Hallett; three step grandchildren Brent, Brenna Bowser and Brianna Hunter; fourteen great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staffs at Astor House and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care, support and teamwork. Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:30 PM at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday February 5, 2016 at Epiphany Lutheran Church 915 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615 with a viewing at 10 am at the church. Interment will be at Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont, OH. Memorial donations may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio at 3000 East River Road, Perrysburg, on 43551.
