Wayne M. Leatherman, 91, of Perrysburg, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Waterford Commons. He was born in Liberty Center, Ohio to Harry J. and Hazel F. (McBride) Leatherman. A 1938 graduate of Liberty Center High School, Wayne served our country during WWII in the United States Army. Following the war, he graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1947 and in 1950, Wayne graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law. He was an Attorney and the founding partner of Leatherman and Witzler Attorneys At Law for 59 years, retiring from the practice of law in 2009. A member of Grace United Methodist Church, Wayne was also a member of the Wood County Bar Association, Northwest Ohio Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association where he was named a Life Fellow by The Ohio State Bar Foundation for his service to the community, the profession and the Foundation. From 1960-1973 he was the first Perrysburg Municipal Court Judge. During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he served on the Perrysburg Board of Education. He organized and help found the Perrysburg Schools Foundation and the Way Library Foundation. On August 6, 1948, Wayne married Melba Jeane Gallagher and together they had two daughters, Sue A. (Rev. James Donnan) Leatherman, M.D. and Kay (Edwin) Leatherman Howard; grandchildren, Ryan Howard and Katherine and Julia Donnan; Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Melba Jeane (Gallagher) Leatherman and his brothers Ray C. and Cloyce M. Leatherman. Friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Friday, May 3, 2013 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) and after 10 A.M. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church 601 E. Boundary Street in Perrysburg where funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Dennis Ditto and Jennifer Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Perrysburg Christians United, the Perrysburg Schools Foundation or Grace United Methodist Church.
