Wayne E. Herkimer, 79, of Millbury, Ohio, died Wednesday afternoon, August 10, 2011, in Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. Wayne was born September 13, 1931, in Monroe, Michigan, to Jacob and Vadah Herkimer Bunkleman. On July 17, 1979, in Toledo, Ohio, he married Nancy A. Bodi and she preceded him in death November 18, 2008. Wayne was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School and received his bachelors degree in 1954 from the University of Toledo. He retired as an engineer from Sun Oil Refinery in Toledo. Wayne loved sailing and was a member of the Toledo Power Squadron. He also enjoyed traveling and frequenting his cottage at Lake Leelanau, Michigan. Wayne is survived by his children, Scott Dawn Herkimer, Kent Herkimer, Holly Jim Coen, grandchildren, Kristen and Justin Coen, Megan Herkimer and Christopher Herkimer, foster daughter, Connie John Demecs-Bower, and the mother of his four children, Aurelie Conn. His parents, wife, Nancy, and son, Craig Herkimer, preceded him in death. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Interment will take place in Elliston Cemetery, Graytown. The family has suggested memorials for Wayne to Calvary Lutheran Church, 1930 Bradner Rd., Northwood, OH 43619; or the American Diabetes Association, 6800 W. Central Ave. Suite D1, Toledo, OH 43617.
