Warren Leonard

December 24, 1930 — July 17, 2025

Warren Bruce Leonard, 94, of Portage Township, passed away at Edgewood Manor on Thursday, July 17, 2025. He was born on December 24, 1930, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Thomas and Esther (Criss) Leonard. After graduating from high school, he worked in the coal mines near his hometown of Brookwood, Alabama. He traveled North to Port Clinton in the early 1950s and accepted a job at Erie Ordinance Depot monitoring targets from a boat. He also worked as a fishing boat captain, was a sales and repair person for Singer Sewing Machines, worked at Gerner and Wolf Funeral Home and Furniture Store, and finished his work life as a Supervisor at Standard Products for 27 years.

He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served two years active duty as a Signalman on the destroyer U.S.S. Vogelgesang, including patrolling the Suez Canal and four years ready reserve.

Warren was a former member of the American Legion, where he volunteered at ceremonies and Bingo Night. He was also a former member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Ottawa County Historical Society and a volunteer at the Wolcott Keeper’s House.

He enjoyed gardening, bicycle riding, hunting, and fishing with his family. He especially enjoyed reading and traveling to National Parks and historical sites. Warren traveled all over the United States following his grandson, Josh’s, participation in the Junior Adapted Sporting Events. He was a talented woodworker and enhanced his homes with gazebos, covered patios, and furniture. He loved the kitties he had over the years. We will miss his sense of humor, funny stories, and silly faces.

He married Lillian Adams on June 6, 1953, and they had one daughter, Laurie Berenotto. He married Kathy (Heinsen) Lewicki on June 7, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Laurie (Anthony) Berenotto of Birmingham, Alabama; stepsons, Michael (Genevieve Sauve) Lewicki of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Benjamin (Dr. Kristin) Lewicki of Madison, Wisconsin, and Christopher (Andrea) Lewicki of Duvall, Washington; grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Berenotto; his daughter Angela’s sons, Chet, Shea, and Jared; step-grandchildren, Phillip, Evelyn, Kathryn, and Lauryn Lewicki; sister-in-law, Dollie Ash; brother-in-law, Mark (Linda) Adams; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister; wife, Lillian; and daughter, Angela "Judy" (Frank) Soltis.
