Warren Jenkins, Sr., 94, of Sylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hawkinsville, GA on December 13, 1926. Warren proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in World War II and later served as a Merchant Seaman. He had the honor of traveling on the Honor Flight. Warren married the love of his life, Ernestine Williams and together they recently celebrated 73 years of wedded bliss. They had four beautiful children he loved dearly. He was a friendly, charming, witty gentleman who never met a stranger. As a young man, Warren, who was a talented saxophonist, played with the jazz legends, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and several other greats on the New York jazz scene. In 1949, he moved to Philadelphia, PA and opened his own photography studio for which he was recognized by the Mayor for his work with the city’s youth in the field of photography. He then worked many years at the Pennsylvania Institute where he was promoted to Lieutenant of Security. In 2010, Warren and his family moved to Sylvania, OH to be with his granddaughter, Tasha Jenkins, M.D. He enjoyed spending time at the Sylvania Senior Center. He is survived by his loving wife, Ernestine Jenkins; children, Deborah Jenkins, Wanda (Vennie) Widamen, Warren (Tamara) Jenkins, Jr.; devoted granddaughter, Dr. Tasha Jenkins; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Lee Ernest Williams; niece, Johnetta Henry; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Mae Jenkins; son, Kevin Jenkins; and parents. Viewing will be on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, with a Funeral Service taking place at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a local V.F.W. Since the funeral will be a small gathering due to COVID-19 safety concerns, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later time for family and friends to come together.
