Warren S. Burford, Sr. age 80, of Wadsworth Ohio, formerly of Toledo, passed away suddenly on January 23, 2012 in Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. He was born March 30, 1931 in Toledo to Jacob and Mary Burford. Warren was a lithograph operator for the Toledo Blade for 17 years, retiring in 1985. He graduated from the Ohio School for the Deaf where he was an All American in 1951 for Football. He enjoyed playing softball and basketball and played in both Toledo and Dayton. He also coached in both sports. Warren was a member of the bowling Hall of Fame for the Ohio Deaf Bowling Association, GLDBA and CSBAD. He held many offices in the Deaf Club and the Deaf Senior Citizens Club where he was past president of both. He was also an officer in the Silent Wanderers Camping group. He was also involved heavily in the Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church. Family and friends nicknamed him Bearhugs, Candyman and Lock em Up Hugs Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; and siblings, Samuel and Pershing Burford, Ida Geiser and Elsie Davis. Surviving is his son, Warren Steve Naomi Burford, Jr.; daughter, Beverly Louise James Rogers; 5 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. Friends may visit at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave, west of Corey on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church, 5859 Elmer Dr. Toledo, Ohio 43615.
