Warner W. Wiltse, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 12th, 2009. A member of the Greatest Generation, Slim proudly served his country during WWII in the Army. His service was distinguished with commendations including the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle Badge, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Davis Business College and worked in the clothing industry at Lamsons, Robert Halls, and as proprietor of the United Woolen Company. Slim was known for his patience and determination being a 35 year cancer survivor. Born in Lamar, Kansas as one of ten children, he relocated to Toledo, Ohio upon retiring from the Army. He had a love for his family and especially for his two grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Wiltse. Slim is survived by his wife, Eveline Wiltse; son, Dale Victoria Wiltse; grandchildren, Matthew Wiltse and Jennifer Wiltse; and sister, Geraldine Richard Bennett. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday from 2 to 9 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 am. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1702 Upton Avenue, Toledo, OH 43607 or the American Cancer Society.
