Walter Traxler

June 14, 1936 — January 10, 2018

Walter “Walt” Traxler, age 81, of Toledo died Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Born June 14, 1936 in a one-room log cabin in Maple, Kentucky, he moved to Toledo as a small child. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1954. He married the love of his life in 1958, and they raised two children together. After 30 years of service, he retired from Owens Illinois in 1996 where he was a practical engineer involved in the development of many new technologies. For recreation he enjoyed camping and was involved for many years in the Ohio State Parks V.I.P. program with his wife. Walt was an amazing father who enjoyed flying with his son, Jeff, and attending horse shows over the years with his daughter, Jackie, and later his granddaughter, Megan. He brought a smile to the face of many, including the children that called him Papa to the people he enjoyed having breakfast with at Frisch’s or The Freeway in Oregon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and mother, Hazel (Allen); as well as his wife, Marilyn “Mim”, and his brothers, Kenny and Marshall. Surviving are his sisters Jane (and Tom) Lamb, Rosie Everhardt, and Sue Traxler; brothers, Jimmy and Ray; sister-in-law Maxine “Peg” Lentz; son, Jeff (Terri Lee Bun); daughter, Jackie (Michael Moore); grandchildren, Courtney Woronec and Megan (and Tommy) Meyers; and other special grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 15 from 2 pm until 8 pm at Walker Funeral Home at 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 10 am at Walker with a luncheon to follow immediately at the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center at 7430 W. Central Ave., Toledo. Interment will take place at 2 pm at Allen Twp. Cemetery in Williston, Ohio. There will be no formal procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center – Veterans Fund. Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
