Walter H. Shields, 86, of Curtice, OH, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. He was born on May 28, 1931, in Curtice, OH, to Lindsay B. and Cleo Mae (Smith) Shields. On June 5, 1953, in Bowling Green, OH, he married Virginia L. Ziessler and she survives. Walter worked as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Curtice and retired in August 1988 with 35 years of service. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1951-53. Walter loved to fish and golf. He also loved to talk and was known for his story telling. Walter is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, Debra Baxter, Barbara (Don) Lockhart, Patricia Hetrick, Daniel Shields, Steve (Shelly) Shields and Peggy (Jim) Reindel; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Beverly Auler and Darlene Schnabel as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard, Lindsay, Jr., and Clifford and sisters, Irene and Aline. Visitation for Walter will be at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Wednesday, January 17, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, with a military graveside service. Memorials for Walter may be given to the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, 6629 W. Central Ave. Suite 1, Toledo, OH 43617-1098; or the donors choice.
