Walter Joseph born the 3rd of 6 children to Walter Henry and Therese Rose Schweickert on July 10th, 1954, died unexpectedly in the presence of his family on June 12th, 2021. He grew up in South Toledo with his beloved sisters, Teri, Karen, Susan, and Julie and a little brother he always wished for--Vincent. He spent his early years growing academically and spiritually at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns, enjoying his childhood summers with family at Devil’s Lake. It must be said that these summers left an indelible mark on him as a child thanks to his grandparents Fred and Aura Martin--so much so that he fulfilled his dream of sharing the lake with family, friends and his soulmate, best friend, and wife Barb/BA/Barbie for an unforgettable 23 years. Walter was an adventurous boy, spending almost all his time outdoors. When he wasn’t busy fishing or hunting and trapping with his dog Duffy, he was busy “bein’ the hoodlum” up and down the Heatherdowns area with his best friend Dennis Pinciotti. In addition to the countless neighborhood hijinks which brought us tales larger than life, perhaps the most formative experience of his youth was when his sister Teri gave him his first Rolling Stones vinyl. From that moment on, life was “but all right.” As Wally grew, so did his responsibilities. A student at St. John’s Jesuit and Maumee HS by day and busboy at the Bungalow by night, he purchased his first car and eventually his first business—Ar’s And Yours Antenna and Tower Service—in 1978. With an unquestionable work ethic, he grew his business in to a cable corporation serving Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Montana with antenna, satellite and private cable services for the last 43 years. He met In 1979, and married Carol Hauser (Campbell), and they brought Adam Joseph and Jeffrey Allen Schweickert into this world. Endearingly known as “the reds”, Walter and his boys made memories at get-togethers with the Tanns, Cromlys, Dunns, Clocksins, and Schweickerts and enjoyed many summers boating on Lake Erie. In 1996, Walter’s family grew to include Craig, Melissa, Kevin, and Kyle Lanzinger when he fell in love with his best friend and wife, Barbara Anne Schweickert (Lanzinger), and they created a little paradise called Walt’s Bar and Chill back up at Devil’s Lake. With their grand-babies by their side, there was no shortage of boating and bonfires, or family and friends, or chicken barbecues and Miller Lites for that matter. He was a faithful servant to Jesus, Mary, and God the Father. He was a friend to anyone who needed a friend. He was a great son, brother, husband and friend. He loved unconditionally. He fathered fiercely. He especially gave us wisdom for the heavy matters life throws at us. He was so incredibly proud of all his children and grandchildren. And he never let a day go by without thanking the Lord for His blessings. He meant the world to all of us, and we will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Barbara, children Adam (Valentina) Schweickert and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Schweickert, Craig (Missy) Lanzinger, Melissa Lanzinger Weidner, Kevin (Maretta) Lanzinger and Kyle (Meaghan) Lanzinger, grandchildren “the dozen” Samantha, Lydia, Cole, Keeton, Skylar, Callen, Carter, Owen, Emilia, Emerson, Ana and his 12th due in November, sisters Mary Therese Tann, Karen (Mark) Cromly, Julie (Kenneth) Clocksin, brother Vincent (Laura) Schweickert, brother-in-laws Thomas Dunn and Mike (Karen) Cole, sister-in-law Deborah Cole, 14 nieces, nephews and their spouses, and 36 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Dunn, mother-in-law Bernice Cole, brother-in-laws Robert Guy Tann and Randy Cole. A memorial mass will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 1 pm in St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo where friends will be received after 12:30 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
