Walter O. Meyer, Jr.

Walter O. Meyer, Jr., 86, of Berkey, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023. He was born in Toledo to Walter, Sr. and Sylvia (Johnson) Meyer on July 25, 1936. When Walt was just 4 years old, he met the love of his life, Carol Winzenried, who lived just two houses away. Neither of them knew it at the time, but they were destined to spend almost 67 spectacular years married. Walt was a member of the Ohio National Guard from 1953-1962. He was a man of faith who was a longtime member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. Walt and Carol had a cottage in Hillsdale where they enjoyed going to spend time with the entire family and avoiding the cold Ohio winters by traveling to Florida. His children and grandchildren were most important to him, always cheering them on at sporting or school events. Walt spent his life devoted to protecting and supporting not just his family, but his community as a fireman. He worked with Station 12, 17, and 25 over his career. He was also a member of the Sylvania American Legion #468.

Walt is survived by his best friend and wife, Carol; children, Jeffery (Debra) Meyer, Cheryl (Randall) Peace; grandchildren, Daniel (Dannielle) Meyer, Brandon (Caitlin) Fidell, Bradley (Felize) Domby, Jessica Meyer, Randall Domby, Kevin Domby; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Zoe, Preston, Amara, Abby, Hannah, Alex; and brother, Dennis Meyer. He as preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Barton, Theodore, and Tommy.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 24, 2023, from 2-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH, where the Fireman’s Last Alarm will take place at 6 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Lutheran Church, 4543 Douglas Road, Toledo, OH 43613. The burial will follow in The Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Faith United Lutheran Church or the Toledo Fireman’s Museum.
