Walter L. Kinsey, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
He was born on August 12, 1942 in Dennison, Ohio. Walt graduated from The Ohio State University and while attending, started working at Lazarus department store in Columbus. He ultimately worked for Lazarus, which later became Macy's, for 44 years, ending as Divisional Vice President and General Manager. He continued his career at St. Rita's Medical Center as VP of Patient Experience, Marketing and Advocacy for 6 years until his retirement.
Walt was known for his infectious smile and personality, his deep commitment to and love for his community and charitable causes and his unwavering optimism. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a dedicated Ohio State sports fan, through good times and bad.
Walt is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Venturella) Kinsey, his children, Jennifer (Justin) Miller and Joseph (Tao Bu) Kinsey, his brother, Daniel Kinsey, his grandchildren, Benjamin, Allyson and Vivian Miller and Olivia Kinsey. Walt is also survived by a brother-in-law, sister-in laws and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Jean (Kohler) Kinsey, his mother-in-law Theresa Venturella, his brother-in-law Joseph Prenezio, and his nephews Scott Stemen and Joseph Venturella.
The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and nursing aides at StoryPoint Waterville and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Internment will immediately follow the mass in Gethsemani Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association, the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor's choice.
