Walter Myrle Dean

Walter Myrle Dean passed away after a vigilant fight with mesothelioma October 29, 2021 at Hospice of NW Ohio. He was born in Tyler, TX on June 4, 1938 to Walter Warren & Taleta Taylor Dean. They moved to Freeport when he was a child. Walter was a 1956 graduate of Brazosport High School and soon after, joined the US Navy. He proudly served through 1960 and learned how to dive and parachute during that time. He met his first wife, Nancy, at her dad’s concession stand in Newburyport, MA when learning to fly while stationed in Boston. They were married June 16, 1962 and had 2 boys, Walter Evan & Kenneth Allen Dean. He earned his Associate's Degree from Brazosport College and Bachelor's in Manufacturing Technology from the University of Houston, all while working full time for Dow Chemical. He worked there for 27 years. Walter was an amazing handyman who could do just about anything. He put that skill to use for his family, many friends, and at numerous volunteer efforts that he was involved with, such as Gulf Coast Rescue Squad, NAMI & many Christ Lutheran Church activities. His favorite hobbies were woodworking and hunting. Walter married Linda McCrery at his home in Lake Jackson on November 22, 2014 where they resided until Linda retired and they moved to Oak Harbor, OH to care for her mother. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Nancy, son, Kenneth, and brother, David. He is survived by his wife, Linda McCrery, son, Walter Evan Dean (Tina), bonus daughters, Faith McCrery (Casey Perry) and Lindsey Slingerland (David), granddaughter, Jamie Alexander (Tye), bonus grandson, Cass Perry, and great granddaughter, Aubrie Leal. There will be a service at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson, TX on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Contact the church at (979) 297-2013 to confirm this date.
