Virginia Zafirau, 95, of Port Clinton, OH passed away, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 21, 1916 in Rising Sun, OH, the daughter of Otto Lehman and Florence Bell Graber Miller. On January 24, 1938, she married Samuel J. Zafirau and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1996. Virginia was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH and sang in the church choir. She was an award winning artist and one of five artists who created the childrens mural at the Ida Rupp Public Library. Virginia was represented in the Split Winds Gallery, Port Clinton, OH and in the Collectors Corner of the Toledo Museum of Art. Virginia was a member of the Port Clinton Artists Club, Port Clinton Literary and Social Club and the Catawba Island Club. She loved art, poetry, music, sailing, bridge, traveling, gardening, sunsets, and baking cookies. Virginia was a much loved mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor. She will be remembered, especially at sunset. Survivors include: Son: S. James Catherine Zafirau; Daughters: Shirley Zafirau and Jinny Mrozek; Grandchildren: Michael Jennifer Mrozek, Paul Mrozek, Mark Kasia Mrozek, John Daniele Mrozek, Anne Mrozek, Bill Kelly Zafirau, Steve Sarah Zafirau and Sarah Zafirau; Great-Grandchildren: Dahlia & Sage Mrozek, Eli & Mahala Mrozek, Liz & Emily Zafirau and Wesley Zafirau; Sisters: Pat Miller Moore and Margaret Miller Boroughf. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister: Peggy Miller Mericle. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8PM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, where prayers will be held at 10:30AM Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Father John Missler at 11:00AM, Friday, July 27, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Virginia, may be made to Ida Rupp Public Library or to a charity of the donors choice. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, assisted the family with arrangements.
